Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo visits Parikrma
A wonderful opportunity for our children
As part of her three-city book tour organized by Pratham Books and the French Institute in India, Esther Duflo visited the Parikrma Centre for Learning in Koramangala on July 10th.
Duflo interacted with 200 Parikrma students. There were lots of exciting talks and exchanges as Duflo shared insights on education, equality, employment, and her new, fascinating book, Poverty Economics for Kids. Children also read excerpts from the book during the meeting.
Founder Shukla Bose shares:
“In her interaction with our children, Nobel laureate Esther Duflo shared her motivation for her new book, saying, ‘The reason I wrote the book is because of you.’ Duflo’s words profoundly impacted our children, who responded with great enthusiasm. Their determination to find answers to their struggles in the future, alongside voices like Duflo’s, fills us with optimism.”
This visit is a part of Pratham Books 20th-year celebrations, where Esther Duflo, whose picture books on economic justice have been translated into multiple Indian languages including Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, and Tamil, will engage with the Parikrma community. The books, illustrated by Cheyenne Olivier, are an essential resource for children to understand complex social issues through storytelling.
